At present, cotton production in Uzbek ranks sixth in the world, and cotton export ranks second in the world.

The average annual cotton yield is 3 million 500 thousand tons of seed cotton, and the output of raw cotton is 100-120 tons.

Uzbek has more than 1000 textile enterprises, 1100 garment sewing enterprises, 230 leather products and footwear producers, and these enterprises account for 14% of the total industrial products.

The Uzbek government has launched a series of policies to promote the development of the textile industry. It includes: before January 1, 2009, whoever joins the Uzbek Light Industry Association's domestic enterprises and joint ventures, when signing contracts for the domestic semi finished textile products (yarn, fabric, etc.), can perform no less than the international market price. The semi-finished products will be made into products for export, according to the international market's 80% price of the finished products; joint venture enterprises will be given tax reductions in investment projects within the development plan of the government's textile industry; textile enterprises will be exempt from the import of dyes, auxiliaries and other processed products within the stipulated time limit; and the Uzbek commercial bank will provide short-term loans (including foreign currency loans) to the enterprises for textile production and export for a period of 180 days.
