In recent years, Pakistan's cotton consumption and imports have been increasing. It is estimated that in 2016/17, cotton consumption in Pakistan will reach 2 million 200 thousand tons and cotton imports will be 320 thousand tons.

With the increasing demand for high-end textiles in foreign markets, Pakistan's imports of high-grade long staple cotton are also increasing, while the export of cotton with relatively low domestic quality is also increasing. It is estimated that cotton exports to Pakistan will increase to 87 thousand tons in 2016/17.
