Hundreds of garment factories in Bangladesh were reopened on Sunday, despite concerns over the nationwide blockade of the new crown virus, Agence France-Presse reported.

The report pointed out that due to the outbreak of the new crown, some international brands cancelled or postponed the order of billions of dollars, which had a serious impact on the garment processing industry which accounted for almost all of Bangladesh's export earnings.

Bangladesh's garment factories closed at the end of March due to compliance measures, but some suppliers said that foreign clothing brand retailers are urging them to complete export orders that have not yet been completed.

Mohammad Hatem, vice president of Bangladesh knitwear manufacturers and Exporters Association, said: "we must accept that the new crown virus is a part of life. If we do not start, there will be an economic crisis. " His own MB knitting company has reopened some factories to make clothes for Primark and several other retailers in the UK.

Hatem added that the factory was under "pressure" from its brand businesses and asked the factory to complete its export before the deadline. He also worries that billions of orders may be transferred to Vietnam or China.

Reported that Bangladesh has about 4000000 labor force in thousands of garment factories. Last year, Bangladesh exported $35 billion worth of clothing to retailers like H&M, Inditex and WAL-MART, second only to China.

Last weekend, hundreds of factories resumed production in the Gazipur and Ashulia industrial areas outside the capital of Dhaka.

A police spokesman, Jane Alam, said that only about 200 thousand workers returned to work in Ashulia alone.

Worker Mofazzal Hossain said he felt it necessary to return to his factory where he earned a monthly salary of $115. He told Agence France-Presse: "the fear of the new crown virus exists, but what I'm more worried about now is unemployment, wages and welfare."

According to the report, Bangladesh is a country with a population of 168 million. According to government data, it has identified nearly 5500 cases of new crown virus infection and 145 deaths. Experts say the actual figures may be much higher due to the lack of authority testing.
